About Me

Hey Hey
"My Name is Cory Dorrough. I am a 25 year old dreamer lacking motivation and direction. I live in a room in the back of my computer shop. Allow me to tell you a little about myself."

I live in Santa Rosa, CA. There's not a lot to do here, but it's better than the last town I lived in. Vacaville has to be one of the most boring towns in the United States. If you ever find out you have just one year to live, move here because everyday feels like a friggin' eternity.

I really love music, playing, hearing, writing... you name it. I play the clarinet, trombone and bassoon. I've made a valiant attept at guitar, piano, harmonica and I tried to learn the bagpipes.

I love ska and punk. I also still enjoy swing, but until there is another revival, I have to swing in the closet. I feel like a disco fan in 1982. Some bands and musicians I dig from the past and present include, but are not limited to: Oingo Boingo, REM, The Beastie Boys, Eminem, Rancid, The Butthole Surfers, Elvis Costello, Save Ferris, and Green Day. Karaoke Bars are a guilty pleasure of mine.

I am a student at Santa Rosa Junior College. Right now, I am taking general education classes, but I am going for a major of Communications. I want to be on the radio. My dream is to be a news guy, but my REAL dream is to do voice-overs for cartoons and commercials. I am ever so close to my Associates Degree.

For the past 7 years I have been educationally stagnant. I got some college units in high school at night, but after that I spent all my time working and didn't have the means to go to school. Well, no more. I'm going to school if I have to eat nothing but raw potatoes and live under an over-pass. A 25-year-old college sophomore is not a good thing to be.

Lately, I've been working hard to get a new business venture off the ground. For years I have been selling things on Ebay, but I could never find that one item I could buy at a low price and sell for more.

Recently I got my hands on a few broken laptops for free. I learned how to take apart these compact machines and looked on Ebay for parts to see if I could fix them. When I got to the site I learned that a new LCD panel to replace the cracked on would be over $100 but meant the laptop could be sold for about $200. I also learned that the keyboard was worth $20, the battery was worth $50, the power cord was worth $30, the CD drive was worth $25, the motherboard was worth $50 and the body was worth $35.

It was worth more in parts in it's broken state than it would've been whole if I fixed it!

Knowing that people are constantly upgrading their machines and either throwing out or storing their old ones, and also knowing that state law recently banned throwing out electronic waste, I formulated a business plan.

For a week straight I worked on graphics and website code and researched what I would need to do to get this off the ground.
